ABOUT ME
As a child, I had an inexplicable passion for ballet. I started dancing at the age of seven in İzmir. Over time, dance became my first language. I trained in ballet for sixteen years, and along the way I discovered contemporary dance. My teachers encouraged me to continue in that direction, but I kept choosing ballet. I loved both its discipline and its impossibility.
During my final years in Istanbul, I performed a semi-classical choreography created by an Argentine choreographer. I barely remember the choreography itself, but I have never forgotten the music: Libertango. With the confidence that "a ballet dancer can do anything," I walked into my first milongas. After only a few tango lessons, I moved to Germany to begin my master's degree. From that moment on, tango began to shape the rhythm of my life. At the end of my first year, I found myself in Buenos Aires. It was the source. Tango belonged there. When I left, it felt as though I had left part of myself behind.
Over the following years, I taught, attended festivals and milongas across Europe, and returned to Buenos Aires whenever I could. Every departure became a little harder. At the same time, I became increasingly curious about movement itself—more aware of my own body, its strengths, and the importance of moving well for the long term. That curiosity led me to the GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® methods. As I spent more time in Buenos Aires and taught in Berlin, I found myself asking more and more questions: Why do I dance? What am I really searching for in tango? And perhaps most importantly… Why does dancing in Buenos Aires feel so profoundly different?
I was no longer satisfied with simply repeating steps. I wanted to understand what makes tango... tango. After countless visits, I returned to Buenos Aires once again—this time without a return ticket. I no longer wanted to just learn new steps. I wanted to understand the culture that gives those steps their meaning. Only later did I realise that my perspective had changed long before my movement did. The longer I lived in Buenos Aires, the more I understood tango. Its history,
At the same time, as I deepened my studies in the GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® methods, I realised that movement isn't just physical—it is a relationship between body, mind and experience. Gradually, everything started to come together. My academic background, my research into tango, my curiosity about Argentine culture, and the questions that had accompanied me for years all found a common language.
Today, everything I do—every class I teach and every story I share—is rooted in that same curiosity: exploring movement not only through the body, but through culture, history and the stories of the people who shape it. Through Argentine Tango, GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS®, I help people explore movement with greater awareness, curiosity and freedom.
